Reloading in the Spirit
When was the last time you spent quality time studying and learning your spiritual weapons? A couple of months ago, my husband and I went to the range. I was amazed at the spectrum of people who were there, especially the children whose parents were teaching them gun safety. It got me thinking, how many of us believers in Yahweh actually take time to learn how to properly use our spiritual weapons and teach our children to do the same? Many can quote scriptures all day long, but do we really know what they mean? Do we read the verse or verses above and below to understand the context? Do we sit with the scriptures in prayer and meditation seeking God for understanding? Do we even know what our spiritual weapons are?
At our recent Refreshing Women’s Retreat, one of our facilitators taught on the topic of Sharpening Your Weaponry. And baby, the rapid-fire scriptural solutions she gave for various scenarios had everyone’s hands moving fast to keep up and jot down notes. She gave practical examples of how to pray and decree the scriptures over your life and situation as you seek God for strategy and direction.
You see, as followers of Christ, we must utilize the gift of example that he gave us. How did Jesus resist the devil—through prayer, fasting, and scripture. While the approach and strategy for spiritual warfare can be multifaceted, start with the basics for now. Learn the scriptures of the Bible, which are our blueprint. Oh, and make sure you know more than just the New Testament. There’s a whole lot of wisdom and strategy in the Old Testament, too.
In life, we encounter a slew of obstacles and opposition. For many, our first response is to face it head-on here in the natural realm. However, the Bible tells us in Ephesians 6:12 that our fight isn’t with flesh and blood, but with spiritual forces. While there are definitely things we can and should do in the natural, you still need to know how to fast and pray scripture to win the spiritual battle.
As you go forward in the days, weeks, and months to come, prioritize your spiritual range time. Be intentional about sitting in Yah’s presence, worshipping, studying, and listening for His instructions. It will make all the difference in how you address and handle spiritual warfare and win the battle.
