The Power of Faith
I don’t know about you, but I love it when the Word comes to life. You know, that moment when you’re reading the Bible and suddenly you see the text in a whole new light. Well, that’s what happened to me the other day when I was reading Hebrews 11, and man, that text is still blessing my soul.
I cannot count the number of times that I have read or heard Hebrews 11:1-2 quoted, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen.” It’s a staple in the Christian community. But what happened to verses 3-40?
What I discovered, yes, I said discovered, was that every verse that followed the declaration of what faith was gave an account, no, a testimony as evidence of what happens when you live by faith. The individuals spoken of in verses 3-40 first heard the Word of God that came to them (Romans 10:17). Then, they hoped (believed) in what God said even though it had not yet been seen (Hebrews 11:1-2). Now here’s the icing on this faith cake: then, they activated their faith by doing what the Word said/instructed (James 2:26).
I don’t know what God instructed you to do, but I want to encourage you to have faith and take flight. It’s not enough anymore for us to talk the talk. We must activate our faith with obedient action and walk the walk. If you’ve been believing God to heal your body, then you must do what He said. If you’re believing God for a breakthrough in your situation or relationship, then you must be flexible and do what He says. The promises of God for your life are reliant on the activation of your faith through your obedience (works) to God’s commands.
So today, take a moment to reflect on what God is telling you to do. Don’t delay. Do it. Imagine where we’d be if by faith Noah hadn’t built the ark, if Abraham hadn’t moved to the unknown land, if Moses hadn’t gone back to Egypt, if Jesus had decided to pull rank and hadn’t fulfilled his assignment on the cross. And let’s not forget the many others the bible speaks of that, while facing what felt like impossible situations, moved by faith in obedience. Now imagine the generations to come that would be affected by your obedient faith (or lack thereof). I stopped by today to tell you to take flight. Someone is waiting on your courageous faith and obedience.
