A Lamp Unto My Feet

My friends and I have a saying, “There’s no new word.” It’s something that God often reminds us of when we come across a scripture that leaps off the page in a way we’ve never seen before. And, if I tell the truth, I have been coming across many scriptures lately that I know I’ve read a few times before but never understood them the way I understand them now. I’ve come to realize that although I’ve read them before, my perspective on the Bible and the Word of God is different now than when I previously read those same passages.
Take Psalms 119:105, for instance. I’ve read this scripture many times in my life. It’s one of the first memory scriptures you learn in Sunday school. “Your word (God) is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” The thing is, until recently, I never realized that this is a two-part scripture.
First, the Word is a lamp unto your feet, which means, in my imagination, when I feel surrounded by darkness and can’t see my way out, God’s Word will ignite and show me where/which way I should go. Then, God’s Word is a light unto my path. So, not only will It show me which way to go, but then, as I continue to walk in the direction the Word points me, It will also be my light along the path. My goodness, gracious 🙌🏽👏🏽🙌🏽.
Throughout the Bible, God constantly reminds us to come to him for ALL our needs AND His direction. Why? Because He already has the blueprint for EVERYTHING we need. In Matthew 6:33, we are told to seek the Kingdom of God first, and then “all these things will be added to you.” Well, what are “these things?” If you go back to verses 31 and 32, you will find that “these things” are our daily needs—what we wear, eat, and drink- our basic needs.
In Jeremiah 33:3, God tells us to ask him anything, and He will tell us remarkable secrets we do not know about things to come. So, if God’s Word tells us to seek him first for our daily needs, to ask him anything, and he will tell us of things to come, and that His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light on our paths then why are we living with anxiety, entertaining fear, and prophesying failure over our lives?
We must spend time with the Father and allow His Word to guide and direct us in all our decisions. It’s literally the difference between bad, good, and Godly decisions. When choosing on our own, we are more likely to make bad decisions (out of God’s will) and sometimes good decisions (God’s permissible will). But when we take time to seek God and get his input and direction, we will always find the sweet spot of decisions, God’s perfect will. That means we will always have what we need because where he guides, there will always be provision, Isaiah 58:11 paraphrased.
So, as you go throughout the rest of this week, be intentional and seek God’s input and direction for every area of your life, and watch the difference it makes. As always, I thank you for stopping by. I hope the sharing of this word has refreshed your spirit and soul. Don’t forget to share it with anyone you know who could use a spiritual pick-me-up. Until next time, be safe and well.
